Ward, the Derbyshire-based metal and waste recycling specialist has expanded and upgraded its vehicle fleet by investing over £2million in new, environmentally efficient artic lorries, wheeled tippers, plus wheelie bin and skip lorries in recent months.
The investment includes the purchase of 15 new vehicles including several DAF articulated lorries, eight wheeled tippers, Roll on Roll off wagon and drags and skip transporters, each with an average value in excess of £120,000.
Min Bawa, Transport Manager at Ward said: “We’ve seen an influx of metal recycling and waste management work over the past 12 months and we’ve expanded and upgraded our fleet to now over 120 modern, energy efficient vehicles to meet current and future demand. In the past we have used various subcontractors for moving materials, but we’ve decided to further invest to bring much of this work in-house, to be able deliver a better service to our customers.”
“We’ve chosen DAF as we believe they are the most comfortable and energy efficient offering us the maximum MPG for our fleet.”
Further investment is planned this year with a number of other vehicles on order including a 7.5 tonne compaction unit and a specialist hazardous waste truck, as well as three new vans for Ward’s UK textile recycling service WARDRobe, thanks to a string of new contracts with national clothing retailers.
The multi-award winning, fourth generation family business has invested significantly over the last 18 months with a new site at Chesterfield, a new headquarters office renovation in Ilkeston, new textile recycling services and the development of a dedicated deep sea dock at Immingham for the expansion of its metal recycling capabilities. This is the first large scale investment for the company in 2019, prior to the installation of a new large scale equipment planned for the Ilkeston depot in the Summer.
