Startup estate agency set to change the face of the property industry

Purplebricks, Britain’s largest online estate agent, could be knocked off the top spot by upstart modern agency Hortons, who are shaking up the market region by region.

If you’ve bought or sold a house within the last few years, you’ll have noticed that there are increasing numbers of online agents such as Purplebricks and eMoov. Sellers tend to have two choices – go with one of the online agents or go to your local high street. Bearing in mind estate agents have recently been voted one of the UK’s least trusted professions*, the decision about what type of agent to choose could come down to the ‘lesser of two evils’. However, recently launched Hortons is on track to buck that trend, with its modern day version of estate agency.

Hortons are building a team of experienced agents who each look after a specific territory, they use ‘personal branding’ and aim to become the go to person in their area for both buyers and sellers. They’re supported by world-class tech, and act as the clients personal agent from start to finish – a refreshing change to dealing with big brands and call centres. Best of all, they only charge a fee if they successfully achieve a result for the client. This turns Purplebricks’ pricing model on it’s head, as they continue to charge their clients regardless of whether they are able to help sell their home or not. Each Hortons agent also undergoes in-depth digital marketing training so they are able to utilise more tools and reach more buyers for their clients properties, which in turn helps achieve premium selling prices.

Customers seem to love what they do, with the company having now gained hundreds of 5 star reviews and recommendations on Facebook.
Hortons was launched last year in Leicester by 25 year-old entrepreneur Adam Horton, and he plans to expand the business region by region and have full national coverage within the next 2 years:

“We chose Leicester as our launch city as it’s right in the centre of the country and provided a great starting point for our initial goal of proving the concept in the East Midlands. We now cover Leicestershire, Rutland, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The next phase is to expand into the South East and East Anglia, which will be achieved by the end of next year”.

“Our goal is to have full national coverage by 2021, and to be the agent of choice for sellers who want to be represented by accomplished, highly skilled estate agents. We want to the be the country’s most client focused estate agency and reshape people’s view of the industry.”
