Shooting Star Marks Ten Years with Marathon Charity Challenge

http---www.weareshootingstar.co.uk-wp-content-uploads-2016-07-Human-pyramid-1024x784To mark a decade in business, seven PR and marketing professionals have set themselves a charity challenge to complete seven marathons.

Colleagues from Shooting Star will each complete a marathon throughout August to celebrate the award-winning agency’s 10th birthday and raise money for its charity of the year, the Lincolnshire Carers and Young Carers Partnership (LCYCP).

The team will be tackling the 181 miles between Shooting Star’s two offices in Lincoln and Bristol. They have chosen to complete the first 16 miles each in their own time, before the team in Lincoln gets together at the end of the month to run their remaining 60 miles between them.

Account Director Sarah-Jane Freni, who is based at the agency’s Bristol office, is planning to conquer all 26 miles when she cycles the length of the Bristol to Bath Railway Path and back.

This particular charity challenge is a first of its kind for the agency and each staff member will be recording their activity using various fitness tracking apps and promoting it on social media.

Director at Shooting Star Kate Strawson said: “As our 10th birthday is coming up in September we wanted to celebrate by giving something back to the community, and LCYCP is a cause that everyone at Shooting Star is passionate about.

“In the past we have tackled various sporting events such as the Lincoln 10K to raise money for our charity of the year, but have decided to set ourselves a new and more demanding challenge to mark an extra special anniversary.”

Jez Ashberry, Director at Shooting Star, added: “We’ve come a long way since Kate and I first set up the business in 2006 and we’ve grown steadily to now include a second office in Bristol, which opened earlier this year.

“It just so happens that the distance between the two sites is essentially a marathon for each member of staff – something which we thought would be manageable for all of us to achieve alongside our usual commitments throughout the Olympic month of August.”

Since 2009, Shooting Star has offered expert advice and communications support free of charge to eight charities and not-for-profit organisations through its charity of the year initiative.

The LCYCP, based in Lincoln, signposts people of all ages who provide unpaid care to essential information and support while also representing the voice of carers through a range of projects and initiatives.

Vicky Thomson, Chief Executive Officer for LCYCP, said: “We are so humbled by Shooting Star’s efforts to raise some much-needed funds that will go a long way to enabling us to continue our work within the community.

“The whole team is really challenging themselves above and beyond and have my complete admiration.

“Both myself and my colleagues are behind them every step of the way and we would urge anyone who knows a carer, is a carer or has been in the past, to donate to the cause.”

The Shooting Star team has set an initial fundraising target of £1,000 and is welcoming donations via its JustGiving page: crowdfunding.justgiving.com/shooting-star-charity-challenge
