He helped his dad Vince earn three top industry awards and now Scott Price has secured his very own Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ Award. Scott was among a record number of Redrow employees to receive the prestigious industry award from the NHBC (National House Building Council) for his work as site manager at Hamilton Park in Leicester.
“This is my first Pride in the Job Award as a site manager,” Scott says. “It felt surreal to be told I’d won because I’ve been part of three awards won by my dad in the past when he was a site manager and I was the assistant.”
Scott, who lives in Coalville and is expecting his first child with fiancée Sophie, started his Redrow career straight from school as a bricklayer in 2006. By June 2010 he was a site assistant and in September 2013 he was promoted to site manager. He’s been based at Hamilton Park since last July.
“It’s taken a lot of hard work and effort to get to this standard,” Scott explains.
“There’s a method of work to follow to achieve the goals set, not only to comply with the NHBC standards, but to go over and above to produce what I think is a good quality standard for customers. It’s something I’ve actively strived for since coming into management.”
On a typical day Scott supervises 60 to 70 people working on site at Hamilton Park.
“The award reflects that not only the people working on this site, but everyone at Redrow takes pride in the houses they handover. We want to give customers the best possible quality product on the market and homes that they really want to live in,” he says.
“The challenge is the complexity of the build. At Hamilton Park the smallest house type is 1,700 sq ft and the largest is 2,400 sq ft and you need to consider the site layout and the customer options that are being added.”
Pride in the Job has been highlighting excellence for over 35 years and is dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in housebuilding. Around 16,000 site managers undergo the judging process in small, medium, large and specialist housebuilder categories and this year, Redrow received a record 27 Pride in the Job awards across England and Wales.
Judging for the awards includes spot checks of the day-to-day running of sites, plus assessment across 38 areas of site management, including each manager’s technical knowledge, consistency in the build process, leadership and organisational skills.
With his place in the top 450 of UK site managers secured, Scott will find out this autumn whether he’s progressed to the next stage of the NHBC’s competition and won a ‘Seal of Excellence’, which would put him in the top 130 elite.
John Tutte, Redrow’s chief executive officer, added: “We’re very proud of all of our winning site managers, and that a record number have been recognised for the second year running. The fact we count 27 of the industry’s best site managers amongst our colleagues is a reflection of the high standards we uphold across Redrow.
“It’s a rigorous judging process and only the best in the business achieve the ‘Quality’ awards. The fact we continue to improve year-on-year demonstrates our commitment to continually improving the high build quality of our homes.”
