Rebecca Chandler, of Leicestershire accountants Newby Castleman, won the Fleming Birch Prize, an annual prize awarded by the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Society for Chartered Accountants, for coming first in the Annual Order of Merit for district students sitting the Professional Stage accountancy exams between March and December in 2017.
She was presented with the prize, which includes a cheque for £150, in front of colleagues at an evening event in Leicester. Rebecca, who studied at Kaplan in Nottingham, gained her Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA) qualifications and became an exam qualified accountant earlier this year, and is currently working to become fully qualified.
Rebecca, 24, said: “I was rather surprised to win the Fleming Birch Prize, and though I was confident about passing last year’s exams, I certainly wasn’t expecting to get the top mark in the district!”
Stephen Castleman, Partner at Newby Castleman, said: “We are very proud of Rebecca, who has worked ceaselessly to become ACA-qualified and has been rewarded for her efforts with this noted local prize. She can lay claim to being among the very brightest and most promising young accountants in the country, and her winning the Fleming Birch Prize clearly demonstrates the high standards we have at Newby Castleman.
“We are fully committed to nurturing talent and pride ourselves on providing a platform for the next generation of accountancy professionals to realise their full potential.”
