MX Display ‘Triumphs’ at prestigious design industry awards

(L to R): Terry Garvey, Sales Director of sponsor EFI, presents the award to MX Display’s David Lister

Large format print specialist MX Display is celebrating after scooping a prestigious design industry award for the work it did on the new visitors’ centre at motorcycle manufacturer Triumph.

The Derby firm was unveiled as the winner of the ‘Wide and Super-wide’ format category at this year’s Print, Design & Marketing Awards.

MX Display worked closely with designers from Studio MB and build experts from Realm Projects to install the impressive space at Triumph’s headquarters in Hinkley, near Leicester.

Free to visit, the centre showcases an exclusive collection of never-before-seen exhibits centred around the design, engineering and manufacture of Triumph’s most iconic models. It features the world’s rarest collection of Triumphs, including the iconic TR6, ridden by Steve McQueen in The Great Escape.

There are eight themed areas showcasing the British marque through its 115-year history and today, plus the Triumph 1902 Café, named after the year the first Triumph motorcycle was produced. The complex project required a wide range of printed substrates and bespoke materials.

MX Display provided a host of printed exhibition materials, including routered clear acrylic displays, direct printing to specialist silver wallpaper, white ink to aluminium sheets, cad-cut vinyl graphics, printed back-lit opal acrylic, optically clear window films, one-piece custom wallpapers, tensioned fabrics and bespoke brushed steel lettering.

Judges of the award described the project as ‘…an example of high-quality print to one-off items that demonstrated variety, innovation and ingenuity on a wide range of substrates’.

The annual Print, Design and Marketing Awards aim to celebrate and reward production, quality, creativity and innovation in the commercial print sector. They were held on board The Silver Sturgeon – a 21st Century yacht on the River Thames that has been transformed into a luxury hospitality venue.

David Lister, MX Display’s Sales Director, said: “We are delighted to have scooped this award. It is testament to the hard work not only of the project team that worked on the Triumph Visitor Centre, but also the whole team here at MX Display for their support in helping us to deliver a visually-stunning, innovative solution to the creative brief for this project.

“Triumph is an iconic brand and a world-renowned manufacturer, and it was great to be involved in a project which tells its story and celebrates its history.

“It is the fourth award we have won this year, but this one is extra special because it was judged by our respected industry peers and really reflects the ethos of our business, which is to bring big ideas to life.”
