Miller Homes Midlands has donated almost £7,500 to Derby-based stillbirth and neonatal death charity, Derby Sands.
The leading housebuilder challenged its employees to collect donations throughout 2017. The funds were raised through dress-down days, quiz nights, charity team golf days, sports sweepstakes and a Christmas raffle.
Ben Massey, operations director at Miller Homes Midlands, said: “We’re always on the look out for ways in which we can support the communities where our developments are located. The team rallied round, throughout year to help raise the money and we all had a lot of fun during the process.
“Derby Sands was chosen because a member of our team had been personally touched by the staff’s dedication and care with their own family. We’re proud to have helped support this charity, so it can continue its crucial work across the region.”
Part of Sands UK, the charity offers emotional support and practical help for families who have experienced the loss of a child during pregnancy, at birth or soon afterwards. It works with local hospitals to provide the best possible bereavement care for those affected.
The money raised will go into sustaining the future of Derby Sands, allowing the staff to provide ongoing emotional support and practical help to families, and to embark on new projects to ensure those requiring help are reached in their time of need.
Chair of Derby Sands, Kate Ives, said: “We would like to thank everyone at Miller Homes for raising an amazing sum of money, allowing us to continue the urgent work of supporting families through the most difficult of times.
“Our support group is gentle, warm and informal and available to anyone who has suffered the death of a baby. We want families to know that they are not alone and are guaranteed a warm reception from other bereaved parents who understand. Without this donation, our work simply couldn’t be sustained.”
