Local woman to take on her first London Marathon

Gemma Dyer, a Motability Specialist at Evans Halshaw Vauxhall Nottingham, will be running in the London Marathon next year to raise money for Brooke.

Brooke is a UK-based international equine charity, which focuses on the welfare and care of donkeys, horses and mules and is the largest charity of this particular cause in the world. The charity is very close to her heart, as it was the final charity her Mother signed up to support and be a benefactor for before she sadly passed away.

Gemma would like to carry on her Mother’s wish of helping animals in need when they cannot help themselves, which is her motivation and inspiration behind taking on the London Marathon.

She has previously fundraised on behalf of the dealership she works at, and over the past two years has raised money for numerous charities including The Firefighters Charity and QMC Hospital. Previously participating in a 5k and 10k run and the Silverstone Half Marathon, her next challenge is to tackle the demanding 26.2-mile Marathon in April 2019.

In addition to running the Marathon, Gemma will also be organising raffles at the Evans Halshaw dealership, which is located on Redfield Road in Nottingham, to raise money. Local businesses have been kind enough to donate prizes for the raffle, including various hair products from M Hair Extensions, a 7-day ‘easyrider’ ticket from NCT Nottingham City Transport, Cineworld IMAX Cinema Tickets, courtesy of The Corner House and Next PLC have also provided £150 sponsorship

In addition to supporting an amazing cause, Gemma’s fundraising efforts have also had an additional benefit for her – her strict training program has seen her lose 4 stone, giving her much more confidence.

She commented “Running is not something I would ever think of doing normally, but running for a good cause is something I couldn’t turn down. I have all the medals bar one – the 26.2 marathon!

“I started training in April 2018 when I was first notified of my place with Brooke for the London Marathon. Everyone has been so supportive so far and I can’t wait to see how much I can raise for this fantastic cause.”
