Leading construction and consultancy firm LGG Projects is taking part in a ‘reverse advent calendar’ challenge in the lead up to Christmas to help provide much-needed food supplies for local people in crisis.
Set up by Lincoln Foodbank, the reverse advent calendar initiative aims to support people in Lincoln who are living in poverty.
As part of the challenge, for 25 days leading up to Christmas each member of the LGG Projects team will place an item of food in a box which will be donated to the Lincoln Foodbank. The firm aims to deliver at least 25 boxes of food items to the Lincoln Foodbank in December and is encouraging local businesses to take part in the initiative.
Lisa Tinker, compliance manager at LGG Projects, is leading the reverse advent calendar challenge at the firm’s office on Tentercroft Street in Lincoln.
She said: “I am very proud of our team here at LGG Projects for jumping on board with this challenge to bring in an item of food each day for those in crisis.
“I can’t imagine what people living in poverty have to endure and we hope that our contribution will help bring some joy at such a difficult time.
“This is a fantastic initiative and we’d like to encourage local businesses and individuals to take part by adding to our collection. A box will be kept at our office open to donations from members of the public.”
Lincoln Foodbank is seeking food items that have a long life and can be stored in cool and dry places, including coffee, tea, canned food, rice and noodles.
Lincoln Foodbank, which was established in 2008, last year provided over 2,233 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis.
Amy Colly, Lincoln Foodbank co-ordinator, said: “In the last year we have seen a 25% rise in the number of people who have needed to use Lincoln Foodbank for emergency support and the winter months are particularly difficult for people, often there has to be choice between heating and eating. All the food that we give out at Lincoln Foodbank is donated and goes to help those who are at crisis point so we are very grateful for the donation from LGG Projects at this time of year.”
