The green energy supplier will be bringing a touch of ‘Chris-Octopus’ treatment to the tens of thousands of locals expected to attend with activities from 5pm on Thursday 22nd November. There will be thousands of lights, a ferris wheel, the chance to meet Santa, a 14m Tree, and a main stage with live music, before the lights are switched on at 6.20pm.
In Town Hall Square, Leicester locals will not only enjoy a Family Fun Zone, but will also be able to see the unveiling of a Zero Emissions Electricity Garden, where Octopus Energy will help Leicester to turbo-charge the transition to a clean energy city, and lowering carbon emissions by supporting a move to electric vehicles. Locals will see a state of the art Tesla with an element of fun and experts from Octopus Electric Vehicles on hand to offer advice on how easy it is to make the switch to electric cars.
Bringing 100% green energy for Leicester households and Leicestershire solar energy for local businesses, Octopus Energy has helped offset emissions with local tree-planting (2,000 planted throughout local communities in the UK in 2018). In Leicester this year alone, Octopus Energy has helped offset 3.418 million kg of carbon across domestic and business activities.
The story of growth and investment in the local Leicester area for Octopus Energy began with the opening of a brand new office in central Leicester, and the launch of a new fairly priced, 100% renewable tariff, the ‘Leicester Power Tariff’ with Charity Link and the first customer Richard III Visitors Centre. The green energy company then became the exciting and new supplier for M&S Energy, and the operations were to run out of the Leicester office, demonstrating further local investment.
Octopus Energy then took over the supply of 90,000 Iresa customers, an investment in the South’s Affect Energy with 22,000 customers, and a further 500 from Gen4U. This has resulted in an increase to over 450,000 customers in just 2.5 years.
Zoisa Walton, Director Octopus Energy Business Solutions, said: “After an exciting year of growth in Leicester, we are delighted to be the sponsor of the Leicester City Christmas lights Switch On; cementing our business firmly in the heart of the city and sharing the Octopus mission of speeding the transition to clean energy future for local businesses and domestic customers.”
Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby, said: “I was very pleased to welcome Octopus Energy to the city this time last year, and I’m delighted that they are already playing such an active role in their newly-adopted home.
Their generous support for our switch-on event is greatly appreciated and I’m very grateful to Octopus Energy for helping us to light up Leicester this Christmas.”
