intu car parking discount for Pride Park and Wyvern workers

People that work on Pride Park or The Wyvern Business Park can now take advantage of a new parking discount at the intu shopping centre.

The new initiative is aimed at drawing workers from the outskirts of town to help boost retail in the city centre and surrounding retail areas.

The lunchtime parking scheme grants those who work in a business on Pride Park or The Wyvern Business Park to have half-price parking at any of the intu Derby car parks for up to two hours, between 11am-3pm every weekday for just £1.50.

The scheme has been introduced following the work of a group of local business owners who are responsible for PridePark.net. The group consists of Essential Print Services, BSP Consulting, Shapcotts Accountants, Derby Pride Academy and Raybould and Sons.

It is led by Yvonne Gorman of Essential Print Services, who commented: “It has always been a bugbear of mine to run an errand in the city centre and it cost £3.10 to do so. The initiative supports retailers and boosts lunchtime football in the city centre by encouraging the 13,500+ people that work on Pride Park into town. It is also great for those who often need to pop to town to pick up a few bits on their lunch break but who are usually put off by the normal parking prices. We approached intu about it and they thought it was a great idea and jumped at the opportunity. It’s brilliant to see the impact that small businesses can have and that the big companies like intu are listening to what we have to suggest.”

To receive the discount simply take a ticket at the barrier as usual, then pre-pay at the intu information desk. You can also collect a pass from Essential Print Services on Pride Park before arriving at the centre. There is no need to pay at the usual machines, just use your Pride Park lunch pass to exit.

PridePark.net is an online business community for companies based on Pride Park on or The Wyvern Business Centre. Alongside the online directory, which is free to list on and gives great exposure, the group also holds regular networking events. The next one is being held at OrangeTheory Fitness on Wednesday 27th November from 12.30pm to 2pm. To find out more about the event, or to register your business for a free listing to share news, events and a company profile, please visit: PridePark.net.

One of the stakeholders of PridePark.net is the Derby Pride Academy, an alternative provision free school. Principal of the academy, Karen Hayes, commented: “PridePark.net is a great community. It allows us to raise the profile of the academy among local businesses which in turn provides fantastic ways for our students to find out more about career opportunities and workplaces. It highlights the many career opportunities available and pathways for our students. We are looking forward to connecting and working with many local businesses in the future through PridePark.net.”

Janet Shapcott, of Shapcott Accountants, said: “We are very pleased with the latest promotion on PridePark.net which can benefit employees working on Pride Park and The Wyvern. Shapcotts Accountants, as one of the PridePark.net sponsors, has made this available to all staff as well as allowing them to alter lunchbreaks to help with Christmas shopping. The website is a great way to keep up to date with what is happening on Pride Park and The Wyvern as well as posting news, events and offers.”
