Heafford boosts Mazars’ East Midlands drive

Mazars Heafford 2International accountants and business advisers Mazars have strengthened their East Midlands operation with the appointment of Stevie Heafford as tax director. She is a specialist in advising entrepreneurs and owner managers. She arrives as Mazars is about to go from one to two offices in the region.

Complementing the firm’s established Nottingham base, it is opening in Leicester, with 20 staff including four partners, and a 5,000 sq ft office at the MeridianBusinessPark. Ms Heafford arrives from the Birmingham office of Grant Thornton where she was senior tax manager. But she is very familiar with the East Midlands having before that been in Derby with Cooper Parry for ten years until 2000. She said: “I am thrilled to be joining at such an exciting time in the development and growth of Mazars.

“I specialise in helping entrepreneurs and owner managers to add value to their business through effective tax mitigation with a view to creating wealth. “The East Midlands has many such individuals running the sort of companies which are the bedrock of the economy. I am greatly looking forward to helping them progress and create jobs.”

Clients include owner managers of both corporate and partnership structures, property investors and developers.

Her areas of expertise include cash extraction, business sales and acquisitions, reconstructions, succession planning and property holding structures.

She also handles the tax affairs of many sports professionals, both based in the UK and abroad, with a view to organising their affairs in the most tax efficient way possible. This role can, for example, take in pension schemes, offshore investments, image rights and planning for retirement.

Of the sporting side, she commented: “Sport, particularly football, becomes ever more high profile. “I have advised a number of big names who are invariably in the public eye albeit naturally their identities have to remain confidential. “Working with footballers can be both fascinating and frustrating in equal measure. Given the potential levels of tax at stake, they need good professional advice, even if they tend to be less likely than most to seek it! It is an exciting sector and very challenging.”

Mazars’ East Midlands senior partner Martin Rogers said: “Stevie is a tremendous acquisition for us.

“She is a highly experienced, dynamic personality, with extensive contacts, who will really boost the team.”
