Freedom Finance sweetens Nottingham entrepreneur’s business dream

A young woman from Nottingham plans to set up her own sweet treats business, after being named as the third winner of the Freedom Finance Do What You Love competition.

Taught by her Nanna from a very young age, Suzanne Thorpe has considered setting up her own business selling a variety of homemade sweet goods since her childhood.

She hopes to use the £2,000 cash prize to start her own business and purchase the equipment she needs to make her speciality treats, which include creamy fudge, spiced gingerbread and protein brownies.

The 30-year-old fits her baking around her current job as an executive assistant for an engineering company, making her homemade treats at the weekend for her family and friends birthdays and weddings.

Suzanne is now passing her Nanna’s skills down through the generations, baking with her niece and nephew, aged five and six. She hopes that in future, when her business is off the ground, she can offer lessons to other children and pass on this passion.

Suzanne said: “I saw the competition online and entered by explaining my business idea but never thought that I would be chosen as a winner.

“I have made sweet treats for friend’s birthdays and wedding favours for as long as I can remember and now thanks to the prize from Freedom Finance, I will hopefully be able to use my passion to start my own business.”

Freedom Finance launched it’s Do What You Love competition last year to give six winners a £2,000 prize. This month, it is calling upon people to share their New Year’s resolutions as part of its aims to help people achieve their dreams.

“This month our we’re mixing it up slightly with our This is You Year campaign, were one luck entrant will win £2,000 to help make their New Year’s resolution a success.
