Former marketing intern offered Executive role with David Wilson Homes

A former Barratt Homes intern is building on her experience after being offered a marketing executive role at sister company David Wilson Homes.

Marzia, who works in Coalville, Leicestershire, did a one year marketing internship with Barratt Homes North Midlands, based in Nottingham, as part of her university course and was recognised for her hard work and invited back once she had graduated.

The company teamed up with De Montfort University to provide first-hand experience in the construction industry to the student in order to train the next generation of business-minded young people.

After graduating with a degree in Business and Marketing, she was offered the role of Marketing Executive at David Wilson Homes East Midlands’ head office in Bardon.

She was delighted to be offered a permanent role with the five star housebuilder and believes her hands-on experience within the company helped with this.

Marzia, 22, said: “I was thrilled when I was offered the job as I always said I would love to come back to the company if I had the chance because they were so great to work for.

“My internship meant that I already had on-the-job experience within the industry and this has allowed me to transfer those skills into my new role.

“To be given an executive title is exactly what I had dreamed of after graduating and being in the same business shows that I am recognised as a hard-working individual.

“I was already aware that Barratt and David Wilson Homes are known for investing in their employees and encouraging career progression and I was so happy to see this is extended to interns and trainees too.

“No two days are ever the same in my new role and it is always fast paced and exciting.”

Marzia’s main responsibilities in the new role include creating email campaigns, leaflets, and posters for new and existing housing developments, as well as sending out marketing emails to potential customers.

She is also in charge of managing content on David Wilson Homes’ numerous development pages, conducts market research and manages the production of computer generated images and site plans from brief to execution.

A typical day for her would involve working on marketing literature for a new development, creating weekly email campaigns and updating the housebuilder’s website to let customers know when homes have sold.

Marzia has always had a keen interest in Marketing and hopes to progress into a management role within the next five years of her career.

To celebrate her success since graduating, she will be going back to De Montfort University in November to give a further talk to current students about how her internship lead her into the new role.

Marzia added: “I feel extremely pleased and privileged to be able to share my experience at Barratt and David Wilson Homes with everyone at my university and to be able to represent the business from an intern and graduate point of view.

“My experience is the ideal route in terms of starting as an intern and then progressing to the next level, so my lecturers thought this would be a great opportunity for me and the business.”
