Fidler & Pepper strike Gold working with young people

Fidler & Pepper Solicitors are an employer of choice in the Mansfield and Ashfield area, it’s official, as they have just been granted a Gold award for commitment to helping young people onto the career ladder.

The firm has received the Gold Talent Match Mark, an award that “recognises and celebrates outstanding employers who support young people in their journey to work”.

Mark Slade, the firm’s managing partner, commented: “We have for many years been committed to offering apprenticeships and providing opportunities for young people to learn and earn. They get invaluable experience in a supportive environment, whilst continuing to gain qualifications, and we are able to guide them in our ways of working.

“For some young people, college and university are the right way forward. For others, apprenticeships are the correct pathway. Everybody is different, and one way is not better than the other.”

Joanne Godson, who is the firm’s People and Operations Manager, explained: “The Gold Talent Match Mark recognises the opportunities we provide to young people across the North Notts area and we are very proud to have been awarded it.
Recruiting and developing young people works well for us as a business as it provides us with the opportunity to develop our employees with the skills needed to support our strategy for growth.

And Mark added: “This Gold award is testament to all the work we do with our young people beyond their initial apprenticeship. That’s why we are an employer of choice in the North Nottinghamshire area and why we are able to recruit and then retain some fantastic staff.”

Talent Match Mark, backed by small and large businesses, and universities, across the UK, has been set up by Youth Employment UK, a leading campaigning and membership organisation dedicated to tackling youth unemployment in the UK.
One of Fidler & Pepper’s apprentices, Sophie Wise, has already been shortlisted for a number of awards, and believes the firm’s approach to helping young people has been key to it’s success.

She said: “My apprenticeship has allowed me to earn money whilst working towards a recognised qualification. I’m working in a professional environment and with people who are happy to share their experience and knowledge. “As well as offering apprenticeships, the firm also offers work experience, does a lot of presentations to schools and staff take part in careers initiatives where they offer interview advice and business and entrepreneurial tips.”
