The award-winning networking group was founded in Northampton in September 2007 by Mike Willis and has since held more than 350 events across Northamptonshire, raising well over £20,000 for ten different local charities, and members have completed more than £2 million worth of business between them.
With around 100 members, The Business Club holds three meetings each month in Towcester, Kettering and Northampton, and sees an average of 35 people attend each time. Guests meet in the evening after work and hear from a guest speaker, enjoy a hot meal, take part in some table networking and everyone gets a chance to talk to the room.
“There have been many memorable highlights in the last ten years, from that launch night when 167 guests turned up and we were forced to send 20 away as we just couldn’t fit them in the room, to winning the Northamptonshire SME Business award for ‘Networking Group of the Year’ at the end of 2016 – an award that we are through to the finals of again this year,” said Mike Willis, who still runs the group today.
To mark the anniversary, The Business Club Northants is holding a celebratory Gala dinner dance at Kettering Park Hotel. Open to members and non-members, the event takes place on Saturday 11th November and costs £30 a ticket, with proceeds going to Cransley Hospice. The night will include welcome drinks, a three-course dinner, magician, comedy and a charity auction followed by entertainment from pianist Lincoln Noel and a live band ‘Pure Genius’.
“The Business Club Northants motto is ‘Enjoy building your business’ and this is something we like to get across at our meetings – networking should be enjoyable,” adds Mike. “I am extremely proud of what The Business Club stands for and I feel that it has made a very positive impact in the local business community.
“My hope for the next year is to increase the membership to 150 members. I am also currently developing plans to expand the Business Club into other geographical areas, which I will be able to announce later this year.
“I love helping people and there have many instances in the last ten years when members have come to me for support and it gives me great pleasure and satisfaction to see them progress. “This anniversary is a real achievement and we’re looking forward to celebrating in style in November. It is going to be a fantastic event and everyone is welcome.”
