Chris Pratt is the latest addition to the growing team at Derbyshire Building Control Partnership (DBCP). His appointment marks DBCP’s 12-month anniversary after being established last year.
Appointed as a training building surveyor, Chris is now working towards Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment.
His appointment represents not only a milestone for DBCP but also the building control industry as a whole which is traditionally known for under investment in young talent.
Prior to joining DBCP, graduate Chris (25) worked as a lifeguard at a local authority sports facility following his Exercise, Health and Fitness degree. DBCP will now be supporting Chris throughout his two-year training programme which includes studying for a foundation degree at Chesterfield College.
Explaining his decision to change career, Chris said: “I really wanted a career that I could progress and develop in and joining DBCP seemed like the perfect opportunity to build my knowledge in a sector I’m interested in.
“The fact that DBCP are happy to invest in me to gain both qualifications and experience is very exciting for my future both with DBCP and in the industry.”
As part of his training programme, Chris will be studying a foundation degree at Chesterfield College alongside shadowing experienced DBCP colleagues, to ensure he develops relevant and in-depth industry knowledge.
Although he has embarked on a new career, Chris remains actively involved with health and fitness as a UK Ambassador for Tough Mudder.
He added: “My new role at DBCP now gives me the opportunity to separate my hobby from my work life. I take part in around 20 Tough Mudder events each year as well as 48-hour endurance races.”
Next month Chris will be travelling to Georgia in the US to take part in his biggest challenge yet – World’s Toughest Mudder. Described as ‘the most extreme, insane, imposing, pulse-pounding, heart-stopping 24-hour obstacle course challenge on the planet,’ Chris and his team will be completing as many laps of a 5-mile course laps in a 24-hour period as possible.
DBCP was established late last year following the amalgamation of six local Local Authority Building Control Services – Derby City Council, Chesterfield Borough Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council, North East Derbyshire District Council, Bolsover District Council and Amber Valley Borough Council.
It is now the largest building control films in Derbyshire and has recently been shortlisted in the New Business of the Year category in the 2018 Derbyshire Times Business Awards
