Accountants give clothes and food to rough sleepers in Leicester

Staff at local accountants Newby Castleman have given blankets, clothes and food to Leicester’s homeless, as temperatures in the city and across the UK plummeted.

30 large bags of clothes were donated by partners, employees and friends of the firm’s Leicester office and passed on to the Dawn Centre, and homelessness charity Open Hands, to be distributed to the city’s rough sleepers.

Nicola Cooper, Marketing Manager for Newby Castleman, organised the charity drive, prepared hot food to be given to homeless people, and even took to the streets with friends to target homelessness hot spots in the city centre.

She said:

“In these freezing cold conditions, it’s important to offer a helping hand to people in desperate need in your local area. My colleagues at Newby Castleman have not hesitated in donating clothes and food to help keep people without a home warm during this cold snap.”

The Dawn Centre on Conduit Street is less than half a mile from Newby Castleman’s Leicester offices, and provides temporary accommodation, support, advice and assistance on health, life skills and education for homeless people. The Bridge Leicester provides meals to homeless people six times a week through various venues.

Stephen Castleman, Partner at Newby Castleman, said,

“As a company that likes to get involved in local charities and good causes whenever we can, we were glad to be able to provide clothing and food for the homeless in Leicester during the extremely cold conditions. We’re very proud of the lengths Nicola has gone to organise and facilitate these donations.”

Donations were also received from The T-Shirt Factory, Ginaarti Uk Ltd, and members of the Clarendon Park Community Facebook page.
